Emese Pánczél Continues Her Research at the University of Perugia
We are delighted to announce that Emese Pánczél, a member of our research group, will continue her research at the University of Perugia (Università degli Studi di Perugia, Italy) as part of the prestigious Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) REALISE international doctoral programme.
Her research will focus on gaining a better understanding of the volcanic activity of the Campi Flegrei Caldera in southern Italy, with particular emphasis on pre-eruptive magmatic processes and the architecture and temporal evolution of the magma plumbing system.
The research project, entitled Decoding pre-eruptive dynamics at Campi Flegrei Caldera, adopts an innovative approach by integrating traditional petrological, mineral chemical, and geochemical investigations with experimental data, thermodynamic modelling, machine learning techniques, and physics-informed artificial intelligence models. The main objective is to gain deeper insights into magma evolution, storage, and the processes leading up to volcanic eruptions.
The results are expected to contribute to a more accurate assessment of volcanic hazards at Campi Flegrei and to the development of improved volcanic risk mitigation strategies.
Emese's research will be supervised by Professor Maurizio Petrelli (University of Perugia), with Réka Lukács (Eötvös Loránd University, ELTE) and Blaž Zupan (University of Ljubljana) serving as co-supervisors. Through this international collaboration, Emese will maintain close scientific ties with our research group.
Congratulations to Emese on this excellent opportunity! We wish her every success in this exciting new chapter of her research career!
