Report from the IAVCEI 2025 Scientific Assembly

The IAVCEI 2025 Scientific Assembly – the largest international gathering of
volcanologists held every four years – took place in Geneva, Switzerland, from June
30 to July 5, 2025. (more information)
We concluded an intense but incredibly rewarding professional week at this
prestigious event. Our research group, the MTA–HUN-REN CSFK Lendület
"Momentum" PannonianVolcano Research Group, participated with one oral
summary presentation (given by Mihovil Brlek, Croatian Geological Survey) and four
completely new, as-yet-unpublished studies. Each of our contributions attracted
significant interest and received numerous positive and constructive professional
responses.
Three members of our team – Péter Gál, Szabolcs Harangi, and Réka Lukács –
attended the conference in person, while unfortunately, János Szepesi was unable to
join us this time. Despite the heat and occasionally less-than-ideal conditions, the week proved to be
an exceptional scientific experience. It was especially gratifying to see how our new
research findings resonated within the international volcanological community.
Experiencing such openness, curiosity, and meaningful professional dialogue was
truly inspiring. We had the opportunity to engage in numerous consultations and scientific
discussions with international colleagues, and we also established several new
professional connections that we hope will lead to future collaborations.
We return to our ongoing work in Hungary with new ideas, fresh perspectives, and
valuable affirmations from this enriching experience.
