Réka Lukács was Awarded the Bolyai Plaque

RL

On 18 September 2025, Réka Lukács, head of our research group, received the Bolyai Plaque in recognition of her outstanding scientific achievements carried out under the Bolyai János Research Fellowship between 2020 and 2024.

Following the evaluation of 162 final research reports submitted by Bolyai Fellows this year, the Bolyai Board honoured 14 researchers with the prestigious Bolyai Plaque. Among them, three awardees – including Réka Lukács – were invited to present their research results in the beautifully renovated Ceremonial Hall of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (MTA).

“Through her research, Réka Lukács has contributed significantly to the understanding of the Miocene Si-rich explosive volcanism of the Carpathian–Pannonian region, by correlating distal tephra deposits with proximal volcanic formations using state-of-the-art zircon-based geochronological and geochemical techniques. Her work not only revealed new relationships between the timing and spatial extent of volcanic eruptions in the region but also brought important methodological advances in tephrochronology, petrogenetics, and regional stratigraphy.”
